Vietri sul Mare is one of the most important coastal town of the province of Salerno, nestled in the most protected corner of the homonymous gulf, immediately west of the capital city and at the beginning of the Amalfi coast, which can be considered "the first pearl". The center of the town, dominated by Mount San Liberatore, lies on a terraced strip overlooking the sea and is dominated by the church of San Giovanni Battista, the city's main monument, built in the seventeenth century, surmounted by the elegant majolica dome. Vietri sul Mare is famous all around the world for the appreciated lively polychrome ceramic handicrafts, whose first records date back to the XV century. The location of Vietri sul Mare allows to reach the centre of Salerno in just a few minutes and to visit the surrounding tourist attractions such as Maiori, Minori, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Cetara, Atrani and the famous Furore’s fjord.
